Experiencing the Super Bowl Buzz

I’m still fairly new to San Francisco, so I’m discovering the city as I go. This February, something big is happening that’s impossible to miss: the Super Bowl is coming to Levi’s Stadium for the first time since 2016, and the city is buzzing in a way I’ve never experienced before.

I’ll admit, I didn’t know much about American football before this. I’d heard of the Super Bowl, seen people wearing jerseys, and noticed the hype online, but I didn’t fully understand it… until I started noticing it all around me. Walking through the streets, I see small groups of people talking excitedly, cafés full of fans, and streets near the stadium humming with anticipation. Even as someone new to the city, it’s impossible not to feel it.

The Big Match — Who’s Playing

From what I’ve learned, the Super Bowl is the biggest football championship in the U.S., where the two top teams of the season compete. This year’s Super Bowl LX features:

  • Seattle Seahawks – NFC champions, known for their strong defense and exciting plays. They’ve been to the Super Bowl 3 times before and won once in 2013.
  • New England Patriots – AFC champions, the most experienced team in the NFL with 12 Super Bowl appearances and 6 wins.

Both teams had a fantastic season with a 14–3 record each, so Sunday’s match promises to be intense. Interestingly, these teams have met in the Super Bowl before — back in 2015, when the Patriots won in a close game — so this feels like a rematch of an old rivalry.

Even without knowing all the rules, just seeing how competitive and celebrated this game is makes it feel huge.

Feeling the City Come Alive

Even for someone who isn’t a football expert, the excitement is everywhere:

  • Cafés and restaurants are packed with people discussing teams and halftime shows.
  • Shops are selling jerseys and themed items.
  • Levi’s Stadium is the center of the action, but the buzz spreads across neighborhoods, downtown streets, and public spaces.

The city feels brighter, louder, and more energetic than usual. You start to feel part of it, even if you’re just learning about the Super Bowl as you go.

Why It Feels Exciting — Even as a Newcomer

I may not know every player or the rules of football, but being here during Super Bowl week is thrilling. It’s not about understanding every detail; it’s about seeing the city, the people, and the energy come alive together. The Super Bowl mixes sports, music, food, and culture into one big celebration, and just experiencing it as someone new is exciting.

For me, being in San Francisco right now is about witnessing a city light up, feeling the shared excitement, and slowly discovering what makes this event so special — without having to be an expert.
